Google to Give 200 EU Scientists Frontier Model Access

Google Grants EU Researchers Frontier Model Access & $3M Credits

Google DeepMind and Google Cloud are providing up to 200 European scientific researchers with direct access to frontier models alongside $3 million in compute credits.

This initiative gives researchers access to advanced scientific tools such as AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve, and AlphaEarth Foundations to accelerate complex tasks, from mapping molecular structures to predicting extreme weather patterns.

Google remarked that the move is aimed at speeding up the pace of European innovation and rubber- stamping Europe’s scientific competitiveness.

The researchers will be equipped to tackle complex challenges faster, from predicting extreme weather patterns to mapping molecular structures, ensuring that European science remains vibrant and at the forefront of discovery.

The US tech didn’t specify which researchers would get access to its frontier models.

Several London-based artificial intelligence startups founded by former DeepMind researchers have recently emerged from the shadows.

Notable examples include Ineffable Intelligence, founded by former DeepMind veteran David Silver, which secured a record-breaking $1.1 billion seed round at a $5.1 billion valuation, alongside Inherent, which launched with a $50 million raise backed by alums from DeepMind, Microsoft, and the White House.

This news comes as a surprise, given how secretive the USA likes to keep its AI engines and technology. Moreover, the US needs to beware of the risk of collusion between European countries and China. That being said, countless tech and geopolitics experts in the States have said that expanding their AI models to new regions and demographics can, contrary to popular belief, help US tech giants hone their models even further.
