Tim Brophy has been promoted to Chief Data & Governance Officer at Truist. In his new role, he will oversee data and AI risk within the broader data and governance leadership mandate.
Before this promotion, Tim served as Chief Data Risk Officer, where he was Responsible for all Artificial Intelligence and data risk across the company. Prior to this, he worked at JPMorgan Chase for nearly 7 years. There, he held several leadership roles, including Head of Technology & Cybersecurity Risk & Employee Platforms, Global Head of Data Protection Risk, Analytics & Engineering, Cybersecurity & Technology Controls and Global Head of Data Protection, Cybersecurity & Technology Controls.
Earlier in his career, Tim worked at Verizon as Executive Director of Risk Management, Information Security & Compliance, and as Director of Risk Management, Information Security & Compliance / Cloud Platform CISO.
He also worked at Verizon Enterprise Solutions for almost 17 years. There he held several leadership roles, including Director of Global Information Security & Compliance / Cloud, Chief Information Security Officer, Manager of Information Security & Compliance / Information Security Officer, Manager of Network Security Engineering, Principal Engineer of Security Engineering & Architecture, Senior Engineer of Security Engineering & Architecture and Senior Technical Account Manager. There, Tim built a product-focused security engineering team whose mission was to partner closely with Product and Development organisations to reimagine how security integrates into the product creation lifecycle.

He began his career with Kramer-Smilko, Inc. as a Systems Administrator. Tim holds a BS in Information Systems, with a concentration in Cyber Forensics, from The Johns Hopkins University; Wharton Executive Education in Information Security Strategy & Management from The Wharton School; and certificates in Disruptive Strategy, Strategy Execution and Leading with Finance from Harvard Business School Online.
